What we test, and what it's for
Each service below lists what's included, who typically needs it, and the standard it satisfies — so you can match it against your own compliance obligations before you call.
Pre-placement & annual physicals
Fitness-for-duty examinations built around your job descriptions rather than a generic template. We evaluate whether an employee can safely perform the physical demands of the role, and return a clear determination your supervisors can act on.
Employer-definedTypically includes
- Health and occupational exposure history
- Vitals, vision, and hearing screening
- Musculoskeletal and orthopedic evaluation
- Physical demand review against the job description
- Work-status determination: cleared, cleared with restrictions, or not cleared
DOT physicals
Medical examinations and certification for commercial drivers and safety-sensitive fleet personnel. The medical examiner's certificate is issued at the visit when the driver qualifies.
49 CFR 391.41–391.43Typically includes
- Full DOT examination and medical history review
- Vision, hearing, blood pressure, and urinalysis
- Medical Examiner's Certificate (MCSA-5876) on qualification
- Long Form (MCSA-5875) completed and retained
- Guidance on short-term certifications and follow-up requirements
Drug & alcohol testing
Collection and coordination for DOT and non-DOT programs, with chain of custody handled end to end so results stand up if a test is ever challenged.
49 CFR Part 40Testing types
- Pre-employment
- Random pool testing
- Reasonable suspicion
- Post-accident
- Return-to-duty and follow-up
- Breath alcohol testing
- DOT and non-DOT panels, including expanded panels on request
- Urine, hair, and blood specimen collection on site
Respirator clearance & fit testing
An employee cannot wear a respirator until a licensed health care professional has cleared them medically. We handle the evaluation and the fit test together so nobody makes two trips.
29 CFR 1910.134Typically includes
- OSHA medical evaluation questionnaire, English or Spanish
- Provider review and written clearance recommendation
- Follow-up examination when the questionnaire triggers one
- Qualitative or quantitative fit testing by make, model, and size
- Fit test record for the employee's file
Audiometric testing
Baseline and annual audiograms for employees in a hearing conservation program, with results compared against prior tests rather than filed and forgotten.
29 CFR 1910.95Typically includes
- Baseline audiogram for new hires entering the program
- Annual audiogram with comparison to baseline
- Standard threshold shift identification and review
- Employee notification when a shift is confirmed
- Referral guidance when further evaluation is warranted
Spirometry & pulmonary function testing
Lung function testing for respirator users and employees working in dust, fume, fiber, or chemical exposure programs, with results interpreted rather than just printed.
SurveillanceTypically includes
- Baseline testing at hire or program entry
- Periodic testing at the interval your program requires
- Interpretation and comparison against prior results
- Written report for the employee's surveillance file
Exposure medical surveillance
Ongoing monitoring for employees working with regulated substances. We build the schedule off your exposure assessment and keep the intervals on track, so a missed interval doesn't become an audit finding.
29 CFR 1910 Subpart ZPrograms we support
- Benzene — including required blood work
- Respirable crystalline silica
- Lead
- Asbestos
- Other regulated substances on request
- Interval tracking and recall scheduling off your roster
Firefighter & first responder exams
Annual physicals built for fire departments and EMS agencies, covering the medical evaluation, testing, and documentation departments are expected to keep on file.
NFPA 1582Typically includes
- Comprehensive physical examination
- Vision, hearing, and pulmonary function testing
- Respirator medical clearance and fit testing
- Laboratory work and EKG as indicated
- Department-ready reporting for each member
Injury evaluation & return to work
Evaluation of work-related injuries and illnesses, with the work-status documentation your supervisors and carrier need to keep a claim moving and get the employee back on light or full duty.
Employer-definedTypically includes
- Evaluation and treatment of work-related injuries
- Written work-status report after each visit
- Restriction recommendations your supervisors can staff around
- Follow-up visits and return-to-work clearance
- Referral coordination when specialty care is needed
Additional services
Testing and preventive services commonly bundled into an onboarding or annual program. Ask and we'll price them into your protocol.
Available on request
- Immunizations and titers, including hepatitis B and tetanus
- TB screening
- EKG
- Vision, depth perception, and color testing
- Laboratory panels ordered to your program
- Physical capacity and lift testing
Where your specimens go
MedCare is a certified specimen collection site for Quest Diagnostics and Abbott Toxicology, formerly Alere Toxicology. Urine, hair, and blood specimens are collected here and processed through their national laboratory networks.
Collection happens locally
Your crew is collected in Los Fresnos, or at your jobsite during an on-site event. Nobody drives to Corpus Christi or Houston to give a specimen.
Testing happens at scale
Analysis runs through established national laboratories, so results carry the same weight and defensibility your clients and insurers already expect.
Chain of custody, end to end
Collection, custody documentation, transport, and result routing are handled as one process. A test that can be challenged is a test that didn't do its job.
If you already have a lab account
Employers with an existing Quest or Abbott account can have results routed to it. Tell us the account number when you set up your protocol.
Any of this can happen at your location
For onboarding pushes, turnarounds, and annual surveillance cycles, we bring the testing to your gate, yard, or trailer. Your crew gets cleared without losing a shift to a round trip.
Plan an on-site event- Mass onboarding and turnaround screening
- Annual surveillance scheduled off your roster
- Contractor compliance packets, ready for audit
- Consolidated employer invoicing
- Bilingual staff on site
Not sure which of these you're required to run?
Send us your job classifications and exposures. We'll tell you which standards apply and what the exam protocol should look like — before you commit to anything.
