About

A small practice built around industrial work

MedCare Occupational Health serves employers, not walk-in patients. Everything about how we operate — the forms, the scheduling, the reporting — is shaped by what a safety manager has to prove.

Who we are

Close enough to answer the phone

MedCare is a nurse-practitioner-owned occupational health practice on State Highway 100 in Los Fresnos, between Brownsville and the coast. We work with the employers around us: heavy construction and LNG contractors, petrochemical operations, fire departments and EMS agencies, manufacturers, fleets, and the staffing companies that supply all of them.

National occupational health networks do a lot of things well. What they don't do is pick up the phone when your superintendent needs a determination explained at 6 a.m. because a crew is standing at the gate. That gap is the reason MedCare exists.

We're small on purpose. The person who owns the practice is the person who examines your employees and signs their clearances. When something needs to be sorted out, there's no ticket queue in between.

That person is Alejandra Flores, and occupational medicine is what she does. DOT and non-DOT physicals, pulmonary function testing, respirator fit testing, breath alcohol testing, drug screening, and workers' compensation injury care — strains, sprains, fractures, lacerations, and the heat exhaustion cases the Valley produces every summer. She has run an occupational medicine clinic of her own in Brownsville and led a clinical team of nurse practitioners, RNs, paramedics, and EMTs. Before that came more than a decade as a registered nurse across medical-surgical, telemetry, and intensive care units in Brownsville and McAllen.

How we work

Three commitments we hold ourselves to

The file is the deliverable

An exam nobody can document is an exam that didn't happen. We standardized our own numbered form set so every employee record comes back complete and in the same order, whether it's one driver or a hundred craft workers.

Speed is a safety issue

A crew waiting on clearances is a crew not working, and a lapsed surveillance interval is a finding waiting to happen. We schedule fast, report fast, and track your recurring intervals so nothing slips.

Everyone understands what's being asked

We deliver exams and questionnaires in English and Spanish. That's not a courtesy in this region — it's the difference between a complete medical history and a form full of blanks.

Service area

Where we work

Our clinic sits on SH-100 in Los Fresnos, a short drive from Brownsville, Harlingen, Port Isabel, San Benito, and the industrial corridor along the ship channel. We see individual employees at the clinic and run on-site events anywhere in Cameron, Hidalgo, and Willacy counties.

Working farther out, or need coverage at a remote site? Ask. We'd rather tell you honestly whether we can staff it than have you find out late.
